Sustainable training schedule
Wrong way to Judge Workouts:
Most guys judge a workout by how destroyed they feel afterward.
The more wrecked, the better the session.
That's exactly backwards.
Here are the real tests of whether your training is working:
Do you sleep well and wake up refreshed? Or do you wake up feeling like you went 12 rounds with your covers?
Are your joints quiet? Or do they sound like velcro slowly being pulled apart?
Is the waist of your pants getting looser? Or is there more roll hanging over the top when you sit in your office chair?
Do the weights you're using feel lighter over time? Or aroll hanging
re you starting to have more heavy gravity days more often?
Do you feel like training again in 24 to 48 hours? Or are you fighting the siren song of the couch, the remote, and a bag of chips?
Those are the tests.
Not whether you crawled away from the workout like a wounded raccoon.
Because the right workout done at the wrong dose becomes the wrong workout.
And the wrong dose for most men over 40 is more than they think.
Over 20-plus years of coaching, I've found that most guys over 40 do well between 20 and 30 minutes, 3 times a week.
With good recovery? They can handle 45 minutes 3 times a week - or 20 to 30 minutes 4 times a week.
Start there. Let the results tell you whether to add more.
